The 1.2 million members of Agrahara Medical Insurance Scheme will benefit by this move, National Insurance Trust Fund Chairman Senaka D. Abeygoonasekera said.

The NITF will increase the surgical facility to Rs 500,000 from current Rs 350,000 and also the annual medical expense allowance to Rs 200,000 from current Rs 150,000. It also plans to extend this facility to cover the dependents of the members. The NITF provides spectacles worth of Rs 20 million on monthly basis.

The NITF and Lanka Hospitals Corporation entered into an MOU to enable its members to benefit under this tie-up. The Agrahara Medical Insurance Policyholders of the NITF could obtain medical treatment and quality of care from Lanka Hospitals.

“We are not only business oriented, but socially responsible. The NITF has identified its social obligation. The biggest social obligation is to look after the Government servants. It supports the economic development by creating an active workforce”, he said.

The Lanka Hospitals is the first healthcare institution to enter into an MOU with the NITF. The Fund calls upon other similar institutions to join the fund to receive benefits and serve the healthcare sector.

The tie up will benefit the Agrahara members and would enable them to obtain quality healthcare facilities. The Lanka Hospitals has set up a special counter to serve the beneficiaries in an efficient manner, Lanka Hospitals Chief Executive Officer Lakith Peiris said.

“We have launched over 40 special surgical packages at competitive rates. This will create an awareness among the patients regarding the medical expenses beforehand. It is a transparent process”, he said.

The Lanka Hospitals has the only ISO 15189 accredited hospital laboratory in the country.
