Engineering Ex 2010 to motivate budding engineers
creativity:
Eng. Tharindu Weerasinghe
"Engineers create a world that has never been" is a famous quote
which sums up the importance of engineers in a nut-shell. If you can
justify that statement as an engineer then you are a candidate to be a
successful professional. Products of Peradeniya have the inherited
talent of understanding the mindset of the public and delivering
(design, structure, build, maintain) the goods.
The Peradeniya Engineering Faculty |
My wordings will be emphasized further from September 17 to 22 as the
pioneering faculty of engineering of Sri Lanka hosts its diamond jubilee
commemorative exhibition at the faculty premises.
The event which will showcase cutting edge advances of computer
hardware and software, electrical devices, mechanical engineering
systems, chemical and production processes and civic engineering
applications. A 60th anniversary stamp too will see the light of day at
the ICTAD Auditorium, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7, on September 9 at 2
p.m.
The Peradeniya Engineering faculty has produced a lot of all-rounders
who have a mixture of engineering skills and human qualities. It is
known for giving birth to engineers who have creative minds. Although
engineering comes with mathematical and logical thinking, it needs to
cooperate with nature to give positive input back to the society.
One of the significant features of the faculty is that it encourages
undergraduates to deal with arts. The faculty's Art Circle has done a
tremendous job when it comes producing budding engineers with music and
literal touch. The surroundings of the university itself makes a
difference because Peradeniya is rich with natural beauty and artistic
resources. Hence most of the Peradeniya engineering students have
excelled in aesthetic aspects like singing, writing, acting and many
more.
As an alumnus who was a member of the Art Circle, I know the value
added by the Art Circle through first hand experience. We may be able to
witness the highways, flyovers, computer software and systems with
Peradeniya engineering talents embedded in them in the future. These
engineers are groomed for the task. EngEx2010 will prove that fact.
