Army deserters posing as Interpol officials arrested

Six army deserters who posed as Interpol officials and swindled money
from a woman who has just returned from Dubai were arrested by a special
Police team attached to the Chilaw Police station yesterday.
According to Chilaw Police sources, the army deserters have arrived
at her house in a land rover with State emblem a few days after she
returned from Dubai where she worked for a number of years.
The suspects have informed the woman that they have received
information about her involvement in a jewelery theft in Dubai and
wanted to search the house. They have collect all her jewelery worth
over a million and left the house saying that the jewelery had to be
kept under their custody till the investigations are over.
The woman has also been informed to meet them in Colombo. These
suspects have scared the woman in trouble and demanded gratification
from her to close the case. She has given Rs. 400,000 to these fake
officers.
The Police took immediate action after she brought this matter to the
Chilaw SSP through a lawyer. |
