Inter-regiment athletic meet of Army

The Army Inter- Regiment Athletic meet will be conducted for the 47th time at the Sugathadasa Stadium on August 17, 18 and 19. This event was inaugurated in the year 1950 as the Inter Unit Athletic meet.

With the expansion of the force this meet has been transformed to an inter-regimental meet.

Looking at the past Army athletes like SLB Rosa, Lt Col Wimaladasa and Capt. A Premachandra went on to represent Sri Lanka with pride it is evident that Army play a dominant role in the national athletic arena. Based on the fact that about fifty percent of national athletes were from the Army.

In recent times runners such as Ajith Bandara IMR Pushpakumara and Sgt Nadeeka Lakmali won Gold medals at the tenth South Asian Games. All of these athletes will be seen in action at the Inter- Regiment meet.
