Bolt shrugs off Gay resurgence
Double sprint world record-holder Usain Bolt says his loss to
American rival Tyson Gay will not play on his mind. Bolt, who cut his
2010 season short after losing his first 100m race in two seasons to Gay
in Stockholm earlier this the month, returned home last week saying he
looks forward to defending his world titles next year in South Korea.
Clijsters rallies to beat Sharapova
Belgian fourth seed Kim Clijsters saved three match points just
before a 74-minute rain break and rallied to beat Russia’s Maria
Sharapova 2-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 in the WTA Cincinnati Open final.
Clijsters won her third crown of the year at the same two million-dollar
hardcourt event where last year she ended a two-year layoff.
Murray defies rain to snap Federer
Scotsman Andy Murray showed steely nerve to shatter a career finals
jinx against Roger Federer, defeating the stylish Swiss 7-5, 7-5 Sunday
to defend his title at the ATP Toronto Masters. Murray, who remains
fourth on the ATP rankings while Federer moves back to second behind
Rafael Nadal.
Kaymer wins playoff to capture PGA
Germany’s Martin Kaymer beat Bubba Watson in a three-hole playoff to
capture the 92nd PGA Championship on Sunday after a shocking penalty
knocked Dustin Johnson out of contention. The 25-year-old Kaymer made a
two-foot bogey putt on the final hole of the playoff to win his first
major championship. |
