Ladies vs Bishop’s hockey encounter ends in a draw

Bishops College gave a fine display of hockey to hold favourites Ladies College girls to nil a draw in their annual encounter played in Colombo. Ladies team who have been winners in the last five years in a row, went out favourites but the Bishops girls turned tables.

In the past Ladies College kept winning but this time under the leadership of Thilini Herath, Bishops gave a superb display of hockey.

Ladies side led by Anouk de Soysa played well but both sides failed to shoot a single goal. On paper the Ladies team was stronger and an experienced side, but Thilini and her girls gave a top class performance.

Though the Ladies side had a major share of possession, they failed to use it and shoot goals, due to superb defence put up by Bishops.

The game by both the schools were excellent, a big hand should go to their coaches, GH Jayatissa and Dinesha Perera for doing a good job.

The large gathering present at this game enjoyed every bit of the game. One hour before the Under-19 game, the Under-17 game took place that too ended in a draw.

This encounter was graced by Nuzath Majood, who led the Bishops team in 1972 and she must have been happy after her school’s superb display.
