Suspect dies after jumping from Police jeep

A person who had been taken into police custody died on Saturday after being admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

The victim was identified as A.A. David of Siyambalagahawatte, Pepiliyawala who had been serving in the Sri Lanka Army for about ten years.

According to police sources the person had been taken into police custody on Friday night while he was allegedly causing inconvenience to residents and motorists at Pepiliyawala junction under the influence of liquor.

While he was being taken to the police station he has jumped from the moving police Jeep at the Kirindiwela town. The police had admitted the suspect to the Radawana hospital with head injuries. Later he was transferred to Colombo General hospital where he died on Saturday.

Pugoda acting Magistrate D.A.P. Weeraratne ordered the police to produce a report regarding the incident. Gampaha police are conducting further inquiries into the incident.
