National Dengue Control Week - Aug 16-22:

The National Dengue Control Week jointly organized by seven Government Ministries will commence today at 9.00 am from the Colombo Municipal Council. The first day (today) belongs to the Health Ministry and the day has been named as `The preparing day', a Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, the second day tomorrow which is named as `The cleaning day' will be handled by the Environment Ministry. The third day of the week - Wednesday will be handled by the Defence Ministry and it is named as 'Day of security'. The fourth day of the Week (Thursday) will be handled by the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry under the theme 'The safe day'.

The Education Ministry will hold the responsibility of implementing programs on the fifth day (Friday) of the National Dengue Control Week under the theme of `The educating day'. The sixth day(Saturday) of the week belongs to the Provincial Councils and the Local Government Ministry. The theme of the day is `The unity day'. The last day of the week belongs to the Disaster Management Ministry and the theme of this last day is `The day of hope', he said.

The Cabinet approval has already been granted to a Cabinet memorandum submitted by Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena to implement the National Dengue Control Week countrywide from August 16 to 22. All State and private institutions, individuals and organizations will take part in cleaning campaigns, awareness raising programs and inspection programs during the week, he added.
