Attack on Ravi Karunanayake:

Four suspects arrested

Police yesterday arrested four suspects from Tangalle in connection with the attack on Colombo District UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake and several others in Beliatta Sunday.

According to Police the arrested have confessed that they had engaged in the act as the team led by Karunanyake had been slandering Hambantota UNP MP Sajith Premadasa while touring the area Sunday. The suspects had been arrested from a hideout in the Tangalle area by a special Police team from Beliatta.

They have been identified as residents of Okewela, Tangalle and Beliatta.

Karunanayake and several of his supporters came under attack while they were returning from a meeting held at the house of a party member close to Beliatta town Sunday night.

During the incident several supporters of Karunanayake had been injured and their vehicles too had been damaged.

Later a complaint was lodged in this regard.

Police are conducting further investigations.

Karunanayake told the Daily News yesterday that he was happy that the Police have succeeded in apprehending suspects involved in the attack.

He added that he was confident that Police will bring to light those behind this attack and their motive during investigations.

“The Police is supposed to give me a comprehensive report on this issue and I will comment after I receive the report,” he added.
