Attack on Ravi Karunanayake:
Four suspects arrested
Police yesterday arrested four suspects from Tangalle in connection
with the attack on Colombo District UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake and several
others in Beliatta Sunday.
According to Police the arrested have confessed that they had engaged
in the act as the team led by Karunanyake had been slandering Hambantota
UNP MP Sajith Premadasa while touring the area Sunday. The suspects had
been arrested from a hideout in the Tangalle area by a special Police
team from Beliatta.
They have been identified as residents of Okewela, Tangalle and
Beliatta.
Karunanayake and several of his supporters came under attack while
they were returning from a meeting held at the house of a party member
close to Beliatta town Sunday night.
During the incident several supporters of Karunanayake had been
injured and their vehicles too had been damaged.
Later a complaint was lodged in this regard.
Police are conducting further investigations.
Karunanayake told the Daily News yesterday that he was happy that the
Police have succeeded in apprehending suspects involved in the attack.
He added that he was confident that Police will bring to light those
behind this attack and their motive during investigations.
“The Police is supposed to give me a comprehensive report on this
issue and I will comment after I receive the report,” he added. |
