IBM launches ‘Smarter Planet Initiative’

IBM launched its ‘Smarter Planet Initiative’ in Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
Smarter software solutions from IBM are ideal for the Sri Lankan
market.
Smarter planet initiative will help to achieve set goals in
Government and the corporate sector in the country.
IBM India / South Asia, Vice President Operations Amith Sharma said
the initiative will drive the growth of clients, curtail costs, grasp
opportunities, make intelligent decisions for business performance and
meet the demand of speedily changing IT backdrop in Sri Lanka.
He said significant issues have been identified in urban areas all
over the world such as traffic congestions, unhygienic water system,
power and energy problems and these matters will be addressed by Smart
software solutions from IBM.
The main objective of IBM is to convey a new level of intelligence to
understand and how the world works - how every person, business, eco
system organization, Government and natural system and man-made system
collaborates.
IBM/Sri Lanka Country General Manager Chrishan Fernando said the IT
industry in Sri Lanka is poised for growth and growth would only come
using smart technologies.
IBM is ready to help the Government and private entities to provide
technologies and expertise to achieve their set targets.

and other significant areas.

UCSC organizes ICT seminars, workshops
The Colombo University School of Computing (UCSC), to mark their 25th
anniversary, has launched a program of seminars and workshops to educate
the ICT teachers and students of schools in the country.
The seminar for ICT teachers, Zonal Education IT Directors and
Instructors of Colombo, Sri Jayewardhanapura and Piliyandala
Educational Zones. About 200 personnel participated in this
seminar. |
Organized by the Computer Science Society of Colombo University and
the Student Union of the UCSC under the supervision of Dr. H.L.
Premarathne and Noel Fernando, these seminars and workshops are
conducted either by getting down the teachers and students to the UCSC
or sending UCSC resource persons to the schools.
Speaking about this program, Colombo University School of Computing (UCSC)
Director Gihan Wikramanayake said they are conducting these seminars and
workshops to assist students and their teachers to learn the recently
introduced ICT subject for the G.C.E. (Advanced Level).
The other is to emphasise the students and teachers on the importance
of ICT and guiding them on career opportunities. ICT is driving the
world economy and is widely used in many disciplines.
The employment and professional opportunities in this field are very
high along with high remunerations.
“We believe that properly guiding the students towards the ICT field
will be a great boost for the country, and the betterment of the younger
generation,” he said.
Kaspersky releases latest version

announced the release of their latest version of its flagship consumer
products Kaspersky internet security 2011 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011
in Colombo recently.
Kaspersky Lab (south Asia) Managing director Suk Ling Gun said, “By
