Certain areas in the country are rich in wind power potential for power generation. But nobody pays attention to this fact. Bandarawela is an unique example. I urge you to conduct a feasibility study to obtain wind power in areas surrounding Bandarawela, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa appealed to the authorities yesterday.

He was speaking as a chief guest on the final day of the Vidulka Energy Week.

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa appreciated the present Minister's efforts to use hydro power from a number of irrigation projects which had been designed to produce electricity but which so far haven't being done . "I appeal to you to maintain links with such irrigation projects and install power turbines to obtain power," he stressed.

He hoped that the Ceylon Electricity Board, the national power provider, would be turned into a successful venture under Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.

Awards and certificates for researchers in the renewable energy sector were presented by the Speaker and Minister Ranawaka.
