Northern youth to study Indian culture

Northern Province Governor Major General G A Chandrasiri said 15 selected youths from the Northern Province went India with two officers to learn the Indian cultural dance and arts.

The youth will study arts and culture at a University in Chennai. The left for India Saturday. 'They will receive training for three months at the University. The youths will learn latest dancing, Baratha dance etc during this period', he added.

Chandrasiri told the Daily News that the aim of sending Northern youths to India to give them opportunity to obtain the cultural knowledge after three decades of war.

The Northern Province youths can learn arts and culture as well as improve cultural knowledge and values. He noted that the Northern Provincial Council sponsoring the training program has spent Rs.1.2 million. The youths were selected from all five districts in the Northern Province.
