Decentralized budget allocations on policy decisions

A policy decision will be taken on allocation of decentralized budget funds to each department or institution. Any change in a proposal should be with the approval of the relevant MP, said Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa. He was presiding at the Gampaha District Coordinating Committee meeting at the Gampaha kachcheri auditorium recently.

The Minister said, "We will take into consideration the Central Environmental Authority proposals on flood protection and water management. These have become global problems. We should control and manage our water resources for posterity.

Irrigation Director Gampaha Sirisena Kumara said, 9,000 acres are under cultivation and about 2,000 acres are not cultivated due to lack of irrigation facilities. Many farmers are not interested in cultivation due to low profits.

Irrigation Director, Western Provincial Council, Chitrangani said that Rs. 203 billion has been allocated for Gampaha district under Ran Aruna program.

WPC Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunge, Governor Alavi Moulana, Social Services Minister Felix Perera, Deputy Ministers Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Sarath Gunaratne, Ven Aturaliye Ratana Thera MP, PC members Ajit Manapperuma, S. Kotakadeniya, and Unank Hettiarachchi also participated.
