Lankan medical team to help Pakistan’s flood-hit

The Health Ministry will send a special medical team from Sri Lanka to Pakistan within the next few days to treat Pakistani people affected by floods. Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena made arrangements to send the team on President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s direction, a Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, two specialist doctors, four medical officers, six nurses, one assistants and two pharmacists will be in the 15 member Sri Lankan medical team which will leave for Pakistan.

The team will be led by Lady Ridgeway Hospital Deputy Director Dr Sujith Gunasekera. Food required for this team will despatched to Pakistan today.

The Ministry has also made arrangements to send medicine to Pakistan along with the Sri Lankan medical team. The Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lanka has been informed about the visit, he said.
