The contribution of the Survey Department should be recognized even
after the completion of any major development project. The Department's
outstanding service are forgotten by every body once the project is
completed, Lands and Lands Development Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon
said.

Surveyors are the pioneer shadows of any major development project of
this country, he said at the Survey Department's 210th annual ceremony
Monday.
Most murder cases as well as family disputes in the country are
mainly linked with land disputes. Surveying of lands should be done
accurately to overcome these problems, Tennakoon said.
"The value of lands increases daily. The people may engage in any
evil deed for money. They do not care even their parents when they enter
into land deals," he said.
Minister Tennakoon said that he will give his fullest support to
fulfill existing cadre vacancies in the Survey Department to extend the
service needed for development projects.
Survey General S.M.W. Fernando said a greater number of surveys with
national interest including construction of highways, expressways,
railways, irrigation projects, land settlements, and mapping lands for
development projects had been carried out by the Survey Department for
last 210 years.
Fernando said a cadastral survey implemented under the Bimsaviya
program for ensuring the ownership of land throughout the country is
another noteworthy service which is being carried out by the Survey
Department.
