The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union in its preparation for the Junior
Rugby Asiad is more than willing partners to showcase schools rugby thus
providing selections, coaches, grounds, practices and infrastructure to
this venture, they are an integral part of the event. It will also help
serve as a base for the selection of the under-20 squad that will end up
representing Sri Lanka at the Junior Rugby Asiad to be worked out in
Bangkok from August 20 to 28, 2010.
This event is powered by Dialog, synonymous with rugby and everything
important, stepping in at short notice will surely be a reason to
escalate the event even further.
The co-sponsors Yes FM always entangled with sport did not hesitate
to jump in with the project and provide the media hype required for such
an event.
The selection of the teams have been made by the selection committee
appointed by the SLRFU for the under-20 tour and players have been
gathered after careful scrutiny of all teams from the A and B division
of schools rugby. These two teams are already in training and will play
as the Kandy Reds vs Colombo Blues. Subsequent to this match the
selected from the squad will go into serious training in preparation for
the Junior Asiad.
In 2009, Sri Lanka's junior team set alight the 'Hong Kong Stadium'
beating Singapore, and the much fancied Korea.
Had they met Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals, they would have made
it to the finals against Hong Kong.
Instead they were beaten by the Hong Kong team which was far superior
in size carrying many foreign nationals from the English and Australian
expatriate community in the team, in the semi-finals. Sri Lanka stood
proud, tall and earned the respect of the Hong Kong players and the
Asian Rugby circuit.
www.ThePapare.com, SLRFU and sponsors are giving this exhilarating
event full coverage ensuring the platform it deserves and to be part of
engaging fans and uplifting rugby in Sri Lanka. |
