CP to promote milk production

The Central Provincial Animal Products and Livestock Department will
launch a number of projects to uplift milk production in the province
spending Rs 5.55 million.
Priority has been given to the Nuwara Eliya District by allocating Rs
2.90 million.
Allocations made for Kandy and Matale Districts are Rs 1.30 million
each. Central Provincial Animal Products and Health Director Jayanthi
Amunugama said these projects will benefit over 30,100 persons in the
provinces and the milk production will be increased from 37 percent to
50 percent.
She said attracting youths for animal husbandry and creating self
employment, establishing new farming fields, animal breeding, growing
different varieties of grass are some objectives of the projects.

Teachers' quarters will be constructed in the Galgamuwa electorate.
The construction of teachers' quarters for Mahananneriya, Usgala
Siyabalangamuwa, Giribawa and Rajanganaya has commenced on the
instruction of Education Deputy Minister T B Ekanayake.
The Deputy Minister told the Daily News that this would be a solution
teachers' residency problem.
Errant driver faces the music
A private bus driver who pleaded guilty to the charge of reckless
driving causing the death of two school going sisters (eight and 12) was
ordered to pay Rs. 250,000 as compensation and fined Rs. 5000 by
provincial High Court Judge Kurunegala Manilal Waldyatilake recently. AW
Intellectual property piracy

Kandy Chief Magistrate Lalith Ekanayake Wednesday fined Rs 50,000 on
a person who pleaded guilty to recording the Sinhala film Ekamath Eka
Rataka into Compact Disks (CDs) and secretly selling them.
The accused is a resident of Kandy.
Police investigations revealed that the accused has been engaged in
the business for a long time. Kandy Police chief inspector Kulasekera
and sergeant Janaka Padmalal made the detection.
Rotary promotes literacy and peace
Rotarians from Colombo West and Malaysia belonging to the Federation
of Malaysians of Sri Lankan Origin (FOMSO) visited Jaffna recently and
provided software, computers and TVs for several schools.
FOMSO President Rotarian Dato Kulasegaran presented the computers and
TVs and pledged their support to improve the educational standards of
the children and to play a part in "Building Communities through
Literacy".
Founder's Day launch of Velautham
The Founder's Day of Velautham Maha Vidyalayam of Point Pedro and
launching of Velautham magazine will be held on August 7 at 5 p.m. at
Tamil Sangam Wellawatta, Colombo. Velautham Maha Vidyalayam O.B.A
Colombo Branch President S. Ehambaranathan will chair the meeting.
Professor Dr. S. Sivalingarasa of Jaffna University will deliver the
Founder's Day oration.
Human Rights awareness program
The Centre for the Study of Human Rights of the University of Colombo
will conduct a Human Rights Awareness Program for prison officers of
Negombo Prison on August 7.
Lectures will be conducted by Resource Persons from the Colombo
University Law Faculty and Arts Faculty. Fifty will participate in the
program.
Public lecture
The next lecture on the Gospel of St. Mark will be delivered by
Professor in Sacred Scripture Very Rev. Father Nilendra Gunasekere at
the National Seminary, Ampitiya on August 9 at 6 p.m. at the Colombo
YMCA Forum Hall.
