CMC night bazaar today

The Colombo Municipal Council for the first time will host a grand
Night Bazaar at the Green Path today providing many items of
entertainment and fun for children, youths and elders.
The Green Path Night Fiesta was launch under the direction of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa to create an environment for people to move
freely and during the evening in the Colombo city.
Addressing the media CMC Special Commissioner Omar Kamil said after
end of the war, the CMC is launching the first Night Bazaar for the
citizens of Colombo city to provide them with fun and entertainment.
"The aim of hosting the Night Bazaar is to create an environment where
people can come with their children and family members and enjoy
themselves without any fear," he added.
The Night Bazaar will include all facilities and amusements. It will
have such a play area, DJ, shops, video walk, parking space, police
post, etc.
Kamil noted that over 40 shops will be opened during the Night Fiesta
including a variety of restaurants.
Trees and the Green Path area will be decorated with illuminations.
A magic show and DJ will add to the fun and entertainment. He said
this will make the Colombo city a more like a city of the west and
providing opportunity to the public to have fun hours.
The CMC planned to continue the Night Bazaar regularly.
"The CMC will continue the Night Bazaar once or twice in a month
depending on the response of the first Green Path Fiesta," he added.
He reiterated that the traffic arrangements has been made during the
Night Bazaar with the assistance of police.
One lane of the Green Path road will be closed from 9 am and the road
completely closed from 5.00 pm onward. The public are requested to use
alternative roads. The Night Fiesta will be carried out on August 6 and
7 from 6.00 pm to 12 midnight.
The security will be provided by police with the assistance of the
CMC security personnel.
Parking spaces will be available in the Leisure Park, Viharamahadevi
Park and the Public Library.
The CMC expect a large number of crowd to attend and enjoy the Night
Bazaar.
Kamil said that the CMC has requested the CTB and private bus owners
to provide late hour bus services to cater to crowds expected from out
of Colombo.
