Former Deputy Minister released on bail

Former Deputy Minister under the PA Government Chandana Kathriarachchi remanded on July 1 was released on bail by Colombo High Court Judge Kumudini Wickramasinghe yesterday.

The case was put off to September 6 to decide on the steps to be decided with the Attorney General's consultation following the dissolution of the Jury last week. State Counsel Dilupa Peiris who said the Jury has been dissolved due to threat to the jury Forman asked Court for time to discuss with the Attorney General, a suitable way for proceeding with the case.

High Court Judge Wickramsainghe ordered the CID and the Police to arrest the fourth accused who was absconding.

Kathriarachchi and four others were remanded for alleged involvement in the murder of C.D. Chandrarathne in Piliyandala on August 24, 1996, One accused is absconding without appearing before Court.

Attorney at law Ranjan Mendis appeared for the accused.
