Shocking fines on power pirates

The Power and Energy Ministry stated over Rs. 16 million was earned in July from fines imposed on power pirates in Minneriya, Ampara and Anuradhapura.

Over 774 power pirates were nabbed and produced in court.

The Ceylon Electricity Board has stepped up raids to nab persons who tap electricity illegally.

Rs. 6,001,534 was collected as direct fines to the CEB while court fines amounted to Rs. 9,906,200.

Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka recently said corruption will not be tolerated and legal action will be taken against those involved.
