Salary hike for academics

Plans are underway to increase salaries of academics who are working in advanced technological educational institutes islandwide, said Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake.

He was speaking after handing over appointment letters to 60 newly-recruited lecturers, academic assistants and non-academic employees for the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE). The ceremony was held at Vidu Piyasa auditorium at Central Bank, Rajagiriya Wednesday.

The Government will also increase salaries of university lecturers. President Mahinda Rajapaksa is keen on developing the higher education system and he has advised to enhance the infrastructures of all higher education institutions. "We know there are many students studying in SLIATE centres around the country. There are problems in those higher education institutes. North and East are developing and we have a program to develop those institutions," Dissanayake said.
