The Amendments to the Construction Development Act which had been
delayed for over 15 years will be submitted to Parliament for approval
soon, Construction , Engineering, Housing and Common Amenities Minister
Wimal Weerawansa said.
The proposed amendments will cover all aspects of the country's
construction issues in keeping with future challenges Minister
Weerawansa added.
The Minister was addressing the AGM of the Institution of
In-corporate Engineers of Sri Lanka recently.
Minister Weerawansa said a specific role will have to be played by
the Pancha Bala Kendraya concept introduced by President Mahinda
Rajapaksa. Weerawansa said the nation had not been able to expose its
knowledge and capabilities inherited traditionally from their ancestors
over the last three decades. The development of the construction sector
will be very important to a country like Sri Lanka which is on a rapid
development drive , he said. He said the development of the construction
sphere of the country will pave the way to uplift the living standards
of the common man in this country, too.
A special program will be formulated to empower the construction
sector of the country from next year with more allocations from the
forthcoming budget, he said.
