Basketball Wing to boost the game at SBC

In a quest to maintain the high standard of basketball which prevails
at St. Benedict's a distinguished Old Ben Tony Ganlath has laid out
plans at his own expenses (Approximately Rs 1.3 million) to upgrade the
game with the introduction of modern technology, and also to form a
basketball 'wing' among the past players.
In the 145 year old school history, the Benedictines have produced an
innumerable amount of quality sportsmen to the country, and basketball
was one of those sports which was synonymous with the school.
A renovated basketball court named as Rev. Bro. Granville Foundation
Basketball Court named in honour of the present Director of St.
Benedict's will be declared opened on July 31 at 4.00 pm at the College
premises by Rev. Brother Granville himself.
"It is not just an opening of a basketball court, the organisers are
very keen in forming a basketball 'wing' on this day in an attempt to
muster all past players who have brought glory and honour to the school
and country.
The newly built basketball court is equipped with modern technology
to suit the latest coaching methods which has been lacking for the
present day generation and also an Installation of an electronic
scoreboard." said Tony who excelled at athletics and basketball at
school and the mastermind behind the project.
This equipment will also help to develop the skills of junior players
who are involved at the 'mini rugby' level.
A press briefing was held at the College premises to spell out the
concept of Tony Ganlath, the Project Coordinator and the others who were
present were Rev. Bro. Bonaventure Director St. Benedict's Primary,
Srilal de Silva President OBSC,Immediate Past President OBSC Keneddy
Matchado, Anton Loppez former Secretary OBSC and Mrs. Nandi Ganlath.
