New Puttalam bus terminal opens today

A new bus terminal with a variety of facilities constructed at a cost of Rs 100 million will be opened in Puttalam today.

Hambantota District MP Namal Rajapaksa and Transport Deputy Minister Rohana Kumara Dissanayake will open the new bus terminal. A Transport Ministry Spokesman said that revenue from rents and rates collected from shops owned by the Puttalam Urban Council has been used to construct the new bus terminal.

"The new bus terminal comprises 136 shops, reception hall and an auditorium will be converted into a major business center in Sri Lanka," he further said.

He said that the new terminal has space for 150 buses. It was designed to provide the maximum comfort to commuters. The bus terminal building can also be used as a meeting place for commuters, shoppers, and students.

North Western Province Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe and Puttalam Urban Council Chairman M.N. Nasmy will also participate at the event.
