Uphold honour of Sri Lankan Flag - Thilanga Sumathipala - MP
Sri Lanka is the second highest supplier of manpower to South Korea,
because Sri Lankans in Korea accomplished their tasks competently and
earned a reputation for efficiency and reliability.
It is now your duty to further enhance employment opportunities for
Lankans in South Korea by bringing honour to our National Flag and
adhering to their laws and behaving in a discipline and responsible
manner, said Colombo District Parliamentarian Thilanga Sumathipala
addressing a gathering of young people preparing to take up employment
in South Korea. Sumathipala was invited to this occasion by Sri Lanka
Bureau of Foreign Employment Chairman Attorney-at-Law Kingsley Ranawaka.
This is the 253rd group of 123 to obtain employment in Korea.
Sumathipala said "the agreement that paved the way for Lankans to go
to South Korea for employment first came into being in 1994, when
President Mahinda Rajapaksa was the Labour Minister.
He was able to obtain very rewarding opportunities for our workers in
the international job market and at present over 20,000 Sri Lankan men
and women are employed in Korea.
It is possible for a Sri Lankan to earn more in Korea than a top
level professional earns here.
That is a great boost to this country and the experience gained by
these workers is as valuable as the foreign exchange they earn. Our
Government is now focusing on ways in which to utilize both these
factors for the development of this country.
Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka was
also present on this occasion.
