Government initiates:

Forward march with intelligentsia

The Government has launched a program to produce an educated and knowledgeable young generation which will be a pride to their parents and an example to the whole world, Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena said when he opened the Kurunduwatta new bridge at Diyagama Kurunduwatta recently.

The Minister said children were the prized asset of parents and parents did everything possible to cater to their welfare.

Gunawardena said the student population in Sri Lanka which registered a growth rate of 32 percent earlier has now declined to 1.9 percent. This proved that the country would experience a large ageing population by 2025.

The Minister said the people could not develop the village road or obtain electricity for their homes by themselves without the assistance of the State. All parents did not have the means to afford private tuition classes for their children. That is why the people have elected a sensitive government which catered to their welfare with a massive majority.

Disaster Relief Minister A.H.M. Fowzie and Western Provincial Council Members Tillakaratne Rajapaksa, Janaka Weliwatta and Gamini Thilakasiri were also present.
