A state-of the-art national control centre to control and monitor
power houses will be setup near the Parliamentary Complex, Sri
Jayawardanapura, Kotte at a cost of US$ 24 million.
According to Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) sources, the Asian
Development Bank will fund the proposed project. The existing control
centre is outdated and nearly 25 years old.
It is accessed to control the function of power houses and monitor
the data of the consumer power demand by the national power grid. It is
now done only through 30 sub-stations out of 85 connected to the centre
, a CEB senior official told the Daily News. With the new control
centre, it will be able to cover islandwide sub-stations and mitigate
future possible power failures providing an efficient and prompt service
to electricity consumers, the official said.
The new centre will be equipped with sophisticated remote control
facilities system to control the function of power houses in accordance
with the country's power demand, he said.
