Cuban Parliament demands total disarmament
Switzerland: Cuban National Assembly President Ricardo Alarcon
demanded Monday the implementation of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs),
general and complete disarmament and international cooperation for
development.
During the Third World Conference of Presidents of Parliament, which
will be in session in Geneva until Wednesday, Alarcon said that the
ideals of the UN Charter and the resolutions of the General Assembly
should not remain dead letters.
Alarcon also demanded an end to harassment and threats against Iran
and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, justice for the
Palestinian people and their inalienable right to independence, and an
end to the colonial occupation of Puerto Rico and Western Sahara.
Alarcon also called for the immediate and unconditional release of the
Cuban Five, imprisoned in US jails for nearly 12 years for opposing the
terrorism that Washington promoted against their country.
Alarcon demanded the democratization of relations between states and
within them, and that programs supposedly designed to alleviate the
economic crisis be not agreed in secret among those responsible for it,
but that they be discussed openly and agreed with their victims, workers
and peoples.
We must improve our work in Parliaments and open their doors and
windows, looking to the people, unions, youths and farmers, so they can
give their opinions, legislate and decide, Alarcon urged.
