A three-wheeler parked opposite a house on Main Street, Weligama has been robbed on Friday night. Weligama Police investigating the robbery said this is the sixth robbery of three-wheelers reported in Weligama in recent times.

The same night, some unidentified persons had entered a house at Bathigama, Dickwella and robbed jewellery and cash valued at Rs 56,600. The inmates had been away attending a wedding. Dickwella Police are investigating.

Meanwhile, an army deserter has been arrested on suspicion by a special police team in connection with the murder of a businessman of Korathota Nawagamuwa in April.

Following interrogation of the suspect, the Police team apprehended two other suspects said to be members of an organized gang involved in a spate of robberies while hiding in Angoda and recovered a T56 weapon, nine magazines, two pistols and 14 cartridges from their houses. Police also recovered a motor cycle used by the suspect army deserter from a garage in Weligama.
