Protect Viharaya murals, urges Thera

Nearly 500-year-old wall and ceiling murals belonging to the Polonaruwa era in Mahara Purana Viharaya close to Eheliyagoda town are peeling off due to the lack of proper maintenance.

Kuruwiti Korale Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka Sri Vadhibasinghe Ven. Asgangule Wimalarathana thera said the authorities have not taken action in this regard despite several reminders.

Mahara Purana Viharaya is famous throughout Sabaragamuwa province for holding Bodhi poojas for nearly 40 years without missing a day by Ven Wimalarathana Nayaka Thera.
