End of the road for fossil fuel

Eighty percent of the energy generation in the world should be through renewable energy sources by 2040 to save the world from the approaching climate change calamity, Energy Forum Executive Director Asoka Abeygunawardena told a media awareness program.

"The world has now almost reached the end of the fossil fuel era. The world will have to face the peak of oil and natural gas production within another two or three years. Unfortunately, people are still unaware about this situation," he said.

The fossil fuel era emerged with the discovery of oil deposits, and it performed a miracle with its power. It changed the whole world, but now it is the time for us to understand the magical illusion it played in the world is over," he explained. He noted that world should be ready to face the post fossil fuel era, and for that renewable energy power plants should be established as an urgent measure.
