Amaya Lake wins Presidential Award

Amaya Lake, bagged the top spot in its category at the recently concluded Presidential Awards for Travel and Tourism, 2009, winning the award for “Tourist Hotels Star Classified Deluxe Accommodation - 4 Star.”

This prestigious awards ceremony recognises both individuals and organizations that have made an outstanding contribution to the growth and success of tourism in Sri Lanka and hopes to encourage and ensure the sustainable development of the tourism industry.

The Amaya Lake, is a symphony of nature and culture and lies on the shores of the Kandalama Lake.

Modelled on a typical Sri Lankan village, Amaya Lake is spread out over 22 hectares of natural dry zone, in the heart of the Cultural Triangle which has become renowned for its UNESCO World Heritage Sites at Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura.

The World Spice Food Festival event traveled from Green Path to the Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo.

The Street Feast will be open from 7 to 11 pm upto July 25.

The Hotel is a buzz with preparations to convert the Terrace by the pool of this hotel into a venue for a Hawker Street style festival of food.

The award winning Head Chef of Long Feng, Qiu Zhi Qiang is known to friends of the restaurant as Jason.

Renowned for his Singaporean style cuisine, an art he began mastering from 16, he brings hotel street food amidst surroundings. Singaporean food is reflective of the country’s culturally diverse ethnic make up.

Its greatest influence arrives from China, with hints of Indonesian, Indian, Thai, Middle-Eastern and even English cuisine resulting from the founding of the city by the British in the 1800s.

The in-house Chef will be joined by Chef Chong Teckhin Gabriel Aloysius who has been specially flown in from Singapore. He brings learnings from Australia and China.


OTHM opens office here

The Organisation for Tourism and Hospitality Management (OTHM) continues to be one of Britain’s fastest expanding awarding and examination bodies, with a network of teaching and examination centres in the UK and overseas. It will open an office in Colombo.

The OTHM team will be present at the Exclusive Education Fair at the British Council, Colombo on July 21 and 22.

Students will have the opportunity to discuss OTHM certification, career opportunities in travel, tourism and hospitality management and meet some of the OTHM ‘Preferred Partner Colleges’ including The London College of Law and Management, Brit College, Bliss College, Oxford College International and Beckett College.

OTHM are now also full members of FAB (The Federation of Awarding Bodies) and also continue to enjoy increased recognition with employers, government departments and universities in the UK and overseas.
