Twenty one charges on Hicorp procurement issue:
AG indicts Sarath Fonseka, two others

The Attorney General yesterday indicted General Sarath Fonseka and
two others with regard to 21 charges on the Hicorp military procurement
issue, before the Colombo High Court yesterday.
In this case the first accused Danuna Tilakaratne son-in-law of
General Sarath Fonseka has been indicted on two charges. All accused
including Danuna Tilakaratne, Wellington T Dehoedt and the third accused
General Fonseka were indicted on 19 charges before the High Court.
The second accused had allegedly produced fraudulent documents
without any authority and agreed to supply 30 generators and 250
compasses.
But they had only supplied 234 compasses to the Army.
This case was earlier heard by the Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate who
granted bail with sureties to one of the relations of Danuna Tilakaratne,
son-in-law of General Sarath Fonseka when he was produced before Court
by the Criminal Investigation Department.
Having indicted, the AG has transfered to the case to the Colombo
High Court for hearing.
During this period General Sarath Fonseka has also approved some
transactions as the Army Commander. |
