‘Excon 2010’ reaches international dimensions
Excon 2010 the annual trade fair of the Chamber of Construction
Industry Sri Lanka (CCI) will be held from 10 to 12 September at
Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Hall.
The sixth edition of the Trade Fair held in 2009, was elevated to the
level of an International Construction Exposition with the participation
of 40 overseas companies as trade stallholders in addition to nine
foreign delegations. The Chamber has already received confirmation of
over 100 overseas participants and has collaborated with construction
industry trade associations in China, Russia and Malaysia to attract
their members. As a concurrent event of Excon 2010 “Water Today” will
host Water Expo Colombo 2010 under the theme, Uniting the vibrant world
of water.
The event is endorsed and supported by the Construction Engineering
Services Housing and Common Amenities Ministry. The Chamber has also
solicited the patronage of the Ministry of Economic Development Ministry
and the Industry and Commerce Ministry while the External Affairs
Ministry through the Sri Lankan missions abroad will promote the
project.
With the dawn of peace after the 30 year old civil war, CCI will use
this event to promote investment in infrastructure development,
facilitate transfer of cost effective technologies, particularly in the
housing sector, in addition to building capacities of the domestic
construction industry through establishment of joint ventures and
foreign collaborations.
The CCI will use this event as another initiative to facilitate
enhancement of capacities and competitiveness of the domestic
construction industry. CCI which is scheduled to commence construction
craftsmen training in the Batticaloa District as a project funded by the
German Government is hopeful of commencing training facilities in the
districts of Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Mannar and Jaffna with
the assistance of the bi-lateral donor to build capacities.
The industry stakeholders from conflict affected areas will be
invited to attend the event in large numbers, providing them with
opportunities to meet overseas investors, vendors of cost effective
construction technologies, equipment and other inputs. CCI targets over
300 tradestalls giving domestic stallholders and industry stakeholders
opportunities to meet their overseas counterparts, infrastructure
development, housing, provision of water supply and sanitation with
tourist sector warranting an addition of 45,000 rooms. |
