Germany edge out Uruguay to claim third place
Sami Khedira’s 82nd-minute header earned Germany
a 3-2 victory in a rousing and rain-soaked World Cup third-place
play-off match with Uruguay here on Saturday. The Stuttgart
midfielder rose to nod the ball beyond Fernando Muslera after
Uruguay failed to clear a late corner, while Diego Forlan was inches
away from a dramatic equaliser with an injury-time free-kick that
struck the crossbar.

England bring in Bopara for Bangladesh finale
England have added Ravi Bopara to their squad as
a replacement for injured batsman Ian Bell ahead of the third and
final one-day international against Bangladesh at Edgbaston on
Monday. Bell broke his foot while fielding during Bangladesh’s
dramatic five-run win in the second match of the series here on
Saturday and had to hobble out as last man, with a runner, in order
to prolong England’s hopes of victory in the final over.

Sri Lanka's Davis Cup hopes dashed
Sri Lanka's Davis Cup hopes were dashed as they
won only one game in the final day's play of the Davis Cup tie
against Hong Kong at the SLTA Courts yesterday. Sri Lanka who were
facing a must win situation yesterday ended up winning one single's
event and losing the other match. The Davis Cup tie ended 3-2 in
favour of Hong Kong and Sri Lanka will be once again relegated to
group 3 in the competition.
