Exported ferrets seized

Customs found two highly invasive species exported to a Sri Lankan family yesterday, Chief Directive Officer Samantha Gunasekera told the Daily News.

“This species is identified as a pair of ferrets. They are obligatory carnivorous and may be harmful to other species such as birds. This species is banned by many countries after found to be highly invasive,” he said.

The Customs handed over the two ferrets temporarily to the Dehiwala zoo.

Investigations are continuing.
