Tharunyata Hetak to commemorate Poson

The Tharunyata Hetak organization will organize a series of religious activities to coincide with the Poson festival in Kurunegala and Hambantota districts.

Under this, seven sub towns of the Hambantota District will be named as Poson Zones (Poson Kalapa).

Nonagama, Tissamaharamaya, Mulkirigala, Beliatta, Suriyawewa, Lunugamwehera and Katuwana will be the Poson Zones while Nikaweratiya will be the Kurunegala District Poson Zone.

Pandals will be erected in each of these Poson Zones.

In addition, the entire zone will be lit up with lanterns, decorations and flags.

There will be two lantern competitions at the zonal level and district level.

The first place in the district level competition will receive Rs 75,000 while the first prize at zonal level will be Rs 50,000.

The second and third places of the district level competition will receive Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively while the runners up of the zonal level will be given Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000.

The Tharunyata Hetak organisation will allocate Rs 9 million for the ceremony, Chief Secretary of the Tharunyata Hetak Organisation Lalith Piyum Perera said.

The Tharunyata Hetak organisation requests the government and private institutions to contribute to this event by performing various events such as making lanterns, lighting up their buildings, lighting oil lamps and so on.

The activities in Nikaweratiya will be held for four days from June 25 to 28. Four Thoranas will come up in Nikaweratiya. It has been planned to have various religious events including Bakthi Gee festivals, alms giving ceremonies, Dansalas.

Perahara will also be held on Poson Full Moon Poya day, Friday June 25 in Nikaweratiya.
