Govt to expand AHS course

Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake yesterday said the recent decisions concerning the Allied Health Science Course was taken in concurrence with all relevant parties and with the best interest of both the Course and students in mind.

He assured both students and their parents that relevant decisions would be made in line with the Supreme Courts verdict and in consultation with the Attorney General, Medical Society and the University Grants Commission. He said that the Government was ready to expand the course further to provide students with opportunities to obtain honours and post graduate qualifications.

In this backdrop the Minister pointed out that he saw no need to engage in protests over the issue.

Through a media release the Minister said that the protest held yesterday by a section of University students was politically motivated.
