Northern and Eastern livestock industry promotion

The Livestock and Rural Community Development Ministry will promote livestock in the Northern and The Eastern Provinces in collaboration with the National Livestock Development Board, LANLIB and MILCO, a Ministry Official said.

Livestock and Rural Community Development Minister Arumugam Thondaman visited the Northern and Eastern Provinces last week with the objective of identifying the opportunities and constraints in the livestock industry in the two provinces. He said the industry will be boosted with private sector collaborations as well as provincial ministries of Animal Production and Health.

Minister Thondaman visited several places and held discussions with provincial council officials and veterinary surgeons and directed them to solve all problems of livestock farmers.

The livestock industry in the Eastern Province is affected due to lack of pasture lands.

The Minister agreed to find out ways to release lands to make sure that enough pasture lands are available for farmers.
