US $40 m to fight Malaria

The Global Fund has donated US $40 million in a bid to assist the
Government's effort to eradicate Malaria from Sri Lanka by 2015, Health
Ministry Additional Secretary P.G. Maheepala said.
He was briefing media over the Malaria eradication program initiated
by the Health Ministry at the Colombo Health Education Department
yesterday.
He said the Malaria eradication program would be completed in two
phases. The first phase will be confined to eradicate the vector of
palsiparo and the second phase will combat with wywax.
Due to the effective health policies, Sri Lanka have managed to
control the spread of Malaria rapidly. Only 150 Malaria infected
patients have been reported this year.
They were found in Moneragala, Hambantota and Killinochchi districts.
He advised if anyone who feels feverish in these areas to consult a
doctor and obtain a medical check up soon.
Any body who is migrating to a Malaria risk country it is advisable
to have free medicine at the National Malaria Control campaign in
Colombo, he said.
