Just society Govt's aim - PM

Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne stressed that the Government was committed to the creation of a just society through religious reconciliation, which he said would lead to the alleviation of social differences and discrimination.

He noted that as the country's Premier and the Minister in Charge of Religious Affairs he had a great role to play in this regard and that he was fully committed to the task at hand.

He added that harmony among different religious sectors could also supplement the progress of economic development.

Speaking further he said the Government had launched several programs in the recent past under the guidance of President Mahinda Rajapaksa with the intention of furthering harmony among different religious sectors.

Premier Jayaratne made these remarks at the Hindu Religious Convention held at the Sri Lanka Maha Bodhi Society Auditorium on Saturday.

A large number of leading Hindu priests from India too participated in the event including Swami Dayanada Saraswathi. The Hindu convention was organized at the Maha Bodhi premises with the blessings of its Chairman Ven. Banagala Upathissa Thera.
