SLPA signs agreement for Hambantota Port Phase II
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) recently signed a contract
agreement with the China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC) for the
constructions of Phase II of the Hambantota Port Development Project.
The agreement was signed by the SLPA Chairman Dr. Priyath B. Wickrama
and the China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd Chairman Sun Ziyu.
The financial assistance in this regard would be extended by the
Government of the People's Republic of China under a concessionary basis
as the constructions would commence in November this year following the
completion of phase I construction of the project.
The most important fact of this project is the completion of all
preliminary activities within very short time with the participation of
local experts. Preliminary studies, data collection, Feasibility
studies, Environmental impact assessment and Detailed engineering
designs etc were completed within a very short time.
