Jiffy Products opens Substrate Plant
Jiffy Products S. L. (Pvt) Ltd. opened a new state of the art
Substrate Plant in Kobeigane in the Kurunegala District.
The plant is situated in a 75 acre plot of land with an investment of
over 250 million rupees. Jiffy Products S.L. (Pvt) Ltd is the Sri Lankan
subsidiary of Jiffy International AS Kristiansand, Norway.
The chief guest at the opening was Economic Development Minister.
Basil Rajapaksa, Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston
Fernando, National Languages and Social Integration, S. B. Navinna,
Norwegian Embassy Acting Ambassador Hilde Haraldstad and Board of
Investments of Sri Lanka, Deputy Director General of Investments, A. M.
C. Kulasekara were also present.
"Kobeigane was an area which was categorised as a difficult area for
investment. However JPSL has managed to create direct employment for
more than 150 and also resulted in the revival of more than 50 ailing
fibre mills in the area thus creating livelihood for families employed
in the coir fibre mills, and for the direct suppliers of coconut husks
to the plant," said JPSL General Manager Sandeeptha Gamalath.
