Floods kill 23 in Brazil
BRAZIL: Floods following days of heavy rain killed at least 23 people
in northeast Brazil, according to figures Sunday from state officials
and local press reports.
In the northeastern state of Pernambuco, civil defense authorities
told AFP 10 deaths had been registered, while over 14,000 people were
left homeless by the flooding.
In neighboring Alagoas state, 13 people were killed by the flooding
according to local media reports, although civil defense officials were
unable to immediately confirm the deaths to AFP. Some 15,500 people lost
their homes in the flooding in the state.
