Syria-Lebanon Summit aims strategic links
Syria: Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and Lebanon President Michel
Suleiman Tuesday confirmed the strategic relationship between the two
countries and the elimination of anything that may hinder the
development process and consolidation of bilateral links.
Al-Assad and Suleiman met in a plenary session with delegations of
their respective countries, as part of contacts held in the latter’s
third state visit to Damascus since the establishment of diplomatic
relations in October 2008.
After his arrival to Damascus Suleiman reviewed with the Syrian
leader of the links between Beirut and Damascus in the wake of drafting
15 new agreements by a joint preparation committee over the weekend.
The Presidents also dicussed about cooperation among educational,
social, cultural and economic institutions of the two nations, as well
as in other fields pending exploration.
Al-Assad said his Government supports the stand of the Lebanese
Presidency as a guarantee for peace and stability there and backs the
upcoming meeting of the Syrian-Lebanese Higher Council to discuss
different aspects of their relations and find ways to develop and
strengthen them.
