War hero family gets new home

The Seva Vanitha Branch at the Defence Ministry engaged in construction of 700 new homes to War heroes and their families across the island, handed over another home under the scheme at Rukmalgama, Kottawa to the beneficiaries Tuesday.

The 700 House Construction scheme was initiated by Defence Ministry Seva Vanitha Branch president Ioma Rajapaksa to enable War Heroes to possess their own land.

Work on such Seva Vanitha funded-houses in Kandy (30), Kurunegala (30) and Matara (30), as the first phase of the mega project, is under way. The family of late War Hero, Sergeant J.S.A.S. Jayasekara was the beneficiary of this new house sponsored by 306 C-1 Pelawatta Lions Club.

The War Hero, Sergeant J.S.A.S. Jayasekara (10 Artillery) paid the supreme sacrifice in a terrorist attack on March 8, 2009.

MoD Seva Vanitha Branch Vice President Indu Ratnayake, Major General R.K.P. Ranaweera (Retd), Major General Wasantha Kumara, Kumari Soyza, MoD officials and several invitees attended the ceremony.
