Quality based national higher education policy
The national policy framework on higher education and vocational and
technical education is completely based on the quality assurance,
assessment and accreditation, NEC Chairman Prof Suraweera said.
He added that they have paid equal focus on student decipline in the
universities when these policies were formulated.
According to Prof Suraweera, they have proposed more closer ties
between the students, academic staff and non academic staff to avert
disputes in the university network.
He said that interference of various external forces have led to many
disputes in the University circle in the past few years and
recommendations were made to avoid this situation too in the future. "We
laid special emphasis on the promotion of post graduate programs in the
Universities too," he added.
Prof Dayantha Wijesekera said they have proposed a technology stream
to the G.C.E. A/L curriculum. Three subjects including mechanical
engineering technology and civil engineering would be introduced for
A/L. "In addition we will introduce food technology as a subject too."
He emphasized that they have focused on the formation of Human
Resources that could make greater contribution to the country's
production process.
Sri Lankan universities would definetly ascend the University
rankings, if these policies are implemented, he said. CP |
