Pascoe satisfied with Mullaitivu development
UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe who
met President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday, following a tour of
Mullaitivu earlier in the day, has expressed satisfaction over the
development taking place in the area.
President Rajapaksa explaining matters to Pascoe on the ongoing
resettlement drive and infrastructure development in the North said that
both were being carried out in a well planned and efficient manner.
During discussions Pascoe promised to make available the vast
political experience the UN possesses at Sri Lanka's disposal whenever
it is needed, the President's Media division said. Pascoe on the
occasion also expressed happiness over President's political acumen and
ability to solve problems and the success of his recent Indian visit,
they added. Resident Coordinator of UN in Sri Lanka Neil Buhne,
Ministers G.L. Peiris, Nimal Siripala De Silva, Presidential Secretary
Lalith Weeratunge too were present.

B. Lynn Pascoe
* Pascoe was previously United States Ambassador to Indonesia from
2004 to 2007 and to Malaysia from 1999 to 2001.
* On 4 September 2001, he took up duties as Deputy Assistant
Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. State
Department.
* Earlier, he served as U.S. Special negotiator for Nagorno-Karabakh
and Regional Conflicts and the U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group of
the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
* From 1993 to 1996, he was the director of the American Institute in
Taiwan. He also served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in
the East Asian and Pacific Bureau of the State Department, Deputy Chief
of Mission at the United States Embassy in Beijing
