Minister orders to sack five employees

Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando ordered the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Chairman Rumi Marzook to take action to dismiss immediately five CAA employees who were engaged in extorting money from vendors in Padaviya.

The Padaviya Police arrested five suspects for extorting money from the traders in areas Padaviya, Siripura, Parakramapura and Kebithigollawa.

These suspects were employers at the CAA office in Vavuniya and they were dismissed by the CAA Chairman Rumi Marzook receiving confirmation that they have violated trade norms. The Minister stressed that stern action would be taken without concerning the position if employees were found to be conducting malpractices at any institution under the purview of the Ministry.
