Pakistan Inter Club hockey champs

Water and Power Development Authority Sports Club from Pakistan
became the Asian Club hockey champions when they scored a convincing 2-0
win over Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club, Malaysia in the finals of the 4th
Asian Inter Club hockey tournament organised by the Asian Hockey
Federation in association with the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation and
played at the Nandimithra International Hockey Stadium in Matale
yesterday. At half time the Pakistanis led 1-0.
It was a great performance by the Pakistanis who had four players
from their Olympic Hockey team including the legendary centre forward
Sohail Abbas who has the world record of scoring 390 goals at
international matches and more known for his deadly scoop at goal which
baffled the opponents.
The Pakistanis have now qualified to play in the Inter Club World Cup
from the Asian Region.
Airmen third
Sri Lanka Air Force clinched the third place by defeating Matale
Hockey club 3-2 in the losers final played earlier at the same venue. At
half time Air Force led 2-1.
Air Force sounded the boards through centre forward Mohamed Mulaffer
(2) and left extreme Gihan Wijeratne (1). Matale Hockey SC scored
through centre half Pramesh Cramer (1) and centre forward Anju Hewage
(1).
